Off to Boston!

3/12/2014

Chemo treatment round 4 of 4 completed February 21, and was better tolerated than treatment 3 (no red devil). Madison has recovered from it faster than ever. We are so fortunate that Madi was under the expert care and guidance of Dr. Storch in Woodland Hills along with her staff, and the wonderful nurses on the 3rd floor.

A lesson learned: If you expect the worst, then chances are you’ll get what you expect. With an approach filled with optimism and an open mind… things WILL go better.  Here’s why:
A few weeks ago we met an 8 year old boy and his parents in the hospital. The young man was going through intense chemo. This kid had an appetite and ate half of a large pizza for lunch that day. The next morning his parents mentioned that he ate a big dinner with a large steak. After it was pointed out that being 8, this boy has not been asking the doctor medical questions, nor is he Goggling side effects of his particular chemo regime.  It turns out this poor kid didn't know he was a poor kid! His chemo regime was very strong, but he didn't know that statistically he should have been vomiting and on top of that, should not have any appetite. I’m happy to report; he was a tad pudgy… a happy thing for a chemo patient!

On March 22, The Hogan Family Foundation’s Rancho St. Francis hosted a fundraising event at its two locations as mentioned in an earlier blog. Kids of all ages stopped by to create horseshoe art; a silent auction included Hawaii Hotel nights, handmade crafts and all sorts of nice items. There was also a yummy bake sale and it was fun for all. Rancho Saint Francis is an outstanding organization, known for its successful horse and large dog rescue programs and for its considerable help for needy adults and children in the Southern California. They are truly wonderful people. Thank you so much to the volunteers, staff, and sponsors. You can follow their activities on Facebook, subscribe to their Newsletter, or give them a 'Like".

Amanda and her Girl Scout troop had a cookie drive in Madison’s behalf. Amanda, her troop, and her mom have been whirlwinds fanning out and soliciting Girl Scout cookie sales. A percentage of the proceeds will go to the Madison Rose fund to help offset medical and travel related expenses.

XHALE in Thousand Oaks sponsored a fundraiser for the MadisonRoseFund. They had a great turnout and XHALE and its clientele were very generous.

Draughts in Thousand Oaks also sponsored a fundraiser to support Madison. Another great turnout and was a celebration of sorts… NO MORE CHEMO!

Thank you again Rancho Saint Francis, thank you to Girl Scout troop 60232, Xhale, and to Draughts for supporting Madison with fundraising events. Please go to the Photo Gallery tab to see all of the pictures!

And in closing... the overall love, prayers, and support from family and friends has been a true blessing. We are fortunate to have you in our lives.
