Madi had a swallowing test today and as suspected things are pretty swollen which is why she can barley swallow. She has a feeding tube and is getting proper nourishment through that. The drawback, it hangs on an IV so she'll be tied to that for another few weeks.
Today another milestone... the last IV was removed! While she's a fighter determined to do what needs to be done to be discharged (to the apartment across the street for 2 more weeks), she's also a realist and recognizes that more PT and endurance will be required.
During rounds today the Dream Team came buy as per usual. To quote them "very impressed by her progress" and "California Toughy". One of the doctors is movie star handsome... to the third power. Honestly I think he's probably the best looking man the family has ever seen and when he smiles, his teeth and an eye twinkle. He was removing a suction tube yesterday and Madison had already been warned by her mom "don't look in to his eyes". We nicknamed him Dr. Dreamy... and now one of the nurses calls him that too. While he was removing the tube from her leg (about 8" in horizontally... ouch), he wore a mask that had Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse figures, which made him that much cuter to all involved. (look away Madi, look away).
Madi's ICU nurse from last weekend came up to her. Unfortunately Madi was sleeping.
